Don’t Worry, Be Happy

jimsWith Jim Shallenberger
8 Wednesdays, June 10 – July 29

Learn to play the ukelele AND manage your thinking, all in one class composed of two on-going sections. Half the class time is allotted to reading, studying, discussing, comparing the works of three contemporary thinkers: Byron Katie, Eckhart Tolle, and Jill Bolte Taylor. There are great similarities in these three distinct teachings urging us not to worry. I have synthesized their ideas into a unified working concept, which is very effective in day-to-day living. Other key sources — Jesus, Lao Tzu, Buddha, Rumi — will be drawn into the discussions.

The second half of the class is dedicated to putting these ideas into action by learning to play and sing Bobby McFerrin’s “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” as well as other songs with uplifting messages. It is very easy to learn to play the uke, they are inexpensive instruments, and it is amazingly happy-making. It’s very hard to worry and play the Uke at the same time!
